On the road to Emmaus, how did the two disciples finally recognize the risen Jesus?
Their eyes were opened at the breaking of bread — the same gesture from the Last Supper. Luke frames recognition as something revealed in an ordinary act, not deduced from an argument. The moment they saw Him, He vanished from their sight.
Luke 24:30–31 · BSB
“While He was reclining at the table with them, He took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus—and He disappeared from their sight.”
